Annual Victim's Rights 5K Run and Walk

The Annual Victims' Rights 5K Run and Walk takes place on the Fairfax Campus in the spring of each year. The event began in 1996 to raise awareness and support for victims of crime, to promote anti-violence education, and to provide funding for the university’s Rape Aggression Defense program (RAD), during National Crime Victims' Rights Week.

In 2006 the 10th Annual Victims' Rights 5K Run and Walk was combined with the Aimee Willard Memorial 5K Fun Run/Walk to keep Aimee Willard's memory alive and to raise funds for the Aimee Willard Endowment Scholarship Fund. This started a new tradition of bringing the Mason Community together for these two very worthy causes.

On June 20, 1996, George Mason University Student-Athlete Aimee Willard was brutally raped and murdered in Delaware County Pennsylvania. Her murder has been a rallying cry for improved legislation for victims' rights and anti-violence education.
